WE WERE GOOD-----WHAT!!!!!

We were so good for Carrie, the catsitter, that she left this note for Mommy:

It says: "Hi - hope you had a nice time. This is the nicest group of cats I've ever taken care of -- I just love them! Please call just to let me know you are home.
Thanks, Carrie"
WE LOVED CARRIE, SHE WAS GREAT!
Spats: "Hi Mommy, I'm waiving to you...well...sort of! Seaborne, tell the others that Sloane & Mommy are home!"
Seaborne: "HEY ....SLOANE & MOMMY ARE HOME!"

Summer: "Hi! We missed you!"
Spats: "What! You are leaving again tomorrow for Texas? Are you serious? YOU JUST GOT HOME!"

Seaborne: "Sam, have you heard that Mommy & Sloane are leaving AGAIN?"
Sam: "WHAT DID YOU SAY?"

Summer: "I am not happy about this!"
Sassy: "They just get home and POOF....they are leaving again....MEOWRRRR!!"
We are staging a protest!
Seaborne: "Just look at this face! How could you leave it again???"

Sam: "Thpttttt!"

Mommy Deb: "For the record, Sloane and I are leaving in the morning to go to Texas to visit both Grandma Taylor, my mother (Nana) and my sister! The Big Guy is back from England, so he will be here to take care of the kitties. We will be back next Monday. Hope everyone and everykitty has a fantastic week!"

Mommy & Sloane are off to New York!

Well, Mommy & Sloane are leaving tomorrow to go and visit New York. The Big Guy is in England visiting Tatum. Mommy hired a "kitty sitter" to come and stay with us. All five Taylor CatSSSSS interviewed her and she is very nice. So, even though we won't be blogging for a few days, don't worry about us!

Mommy, be sure to wake us up when you get back. Yawn!

LOOK WHO DECIDED TO VISIT US in at Washington DC ! We arranged to meet at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. While they were waiting on the lawn....little did they know...

WE HAD ALREADY TAKEN OVER THE WHITE HOUSE!

We thought we would trash it...umm...we mean tour it... before Cheysuli moved in. THUNDERING HERDS OF ELEPHANTS were in order. We started in the Cross Hall.....And into the Red Room... Chey has already got her portrait up in there.
Next, we met India, the White House Cat!
Here she is posing on a chair in the West Garden Room in the White House.
India "Willie" Bush has been a beloved member of the Bush family for more than 10 years.

Here are some facts about India:

"India also goes by "Willie" and "Kitty."
  • "Dream" Job: Presidential Historian...loves to tell interesting facts about past Presidents and First Ladies.
  • Address: 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, DC
  • D.C.'Beans": President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush
  • Namesake: Named for former Texas Ranger baseball player, Ruben Sierra, who was called "El Indio"
  • Favorite Sport: Hiding from "Beans"
  • Favorite Food: Tuna flavored kitty treats
  • Favorite Book: If You Take a Mouse to the Movies, by Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond
  • Favorite Place to Nap: Under the bed
Here are some of the cats, past and present, who have lived in the White House in Washington, as pets of the Presidents or their families:

16th President, Abraham Lincoln: Tabby. The first White House cat.
19th President, Rutherford Hayes: Siam. A gift from the American Consul in Bangkok; this cat was the first Siamese to reach the United States (1878).
26th President, Theodore Roosevelt: Slippers and Tom Quartz.
29th President, Calvin Coolidge: Smokey, Blackie, Timmy and Tiger. Tiger was a grey stripped stray who used to be carried around the White House by the president, around his neck.
35th President, John Kennedy: Tom Kitten. When the cat died in 1962, he was given an obituary notice by the press.
38th President, Gerald Ford: Shan.
39th President, Jimmy Carter: A Siamese, Misty Malarky Ying Yang.
40th President, Ronald Reagan: Cleo & Sara, Tortoiseshell strays, also several unnamed cats.
42nd President, Bill Clinton: Socks and Buddy.
43rd President, George W. Bush: Ernie and India "Willie" Bush.
A third cat, Cowboy, said to be the president's favorite, died of a kidney disease in February 2000 at the age of 12.
After our visit with India, we decided to go and see the China Room!

WHOOPS!
After that...um...incident...we met a couple of Secret Service Agents:Fortunately, they were very nice. They even showed us their badge:
They...ummm...suggested that perhaps we should escape....err...we mean.. leave D.C. Here is the escape route....err....directions they gave us to get to the Taylor CatSSSSS house in Rockville, Maryland:
We all made it back to our house (Taylor CatSSSSS)! Whew!
If you need us, we will be in the basement hiding...we mean...partying! Just don't let the Secret Service know!

SUCCESS!!!

First:
The cats of Randolph, IA are also safe. Ever since Mayor Vance Trively instituted a $5 bounty payment on catching and delivering live cats and dogs to the him to be killed, Alley Cat Allies has been working—with your help—to put a stop to the inhumane practice. Thanks to the more than 3,500 letters you sent and to the help of local supporters and the Iowa State Veterinarian, the Randolph, Iowa’s City Council has overridden the mayor’s plan.
Supporters and several Feral Friends Network members attended the council meeting yesterday on Alley Cat Allies’ behalf and presented the city council and mayor with an offer to assist with launching a Trap-Neuter-Return program.
Given the cease and desist request to the mayor from the state veterinarian, the city council voted to shut down the mayor’s operation and institute an effective, humane program. Alley Cat Allies will work with the Randolph City Council to implement a Trap-Neuter-Return program including workshops which will help educate residents about feral cats.

Second:
In Chantilly, VA, the property management company at the Meadows of Chantilly has decided to collaborate with Alley Cat Allies to strengthen the existing Trap-Neuter-Return program rather than catching and killing the 200 cats who live in the community. Alley Cat Allies applauds their willingness to partner with us to do what’s best for the community and the cats.
Thanks to the more than 2,000 letters from advocates and Alley Cat Allies' offer of help, the company reassessed their earlier decision and agreed to work with us and their residents to ensure the cats’ safety.

AND LAST BUT DEFINITELY NOT LEAST:
The Bean's website that was defiling PsychoKitty, Skeezix and some of our other friends IS GONE!!!

LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE CAT BLOGOSPHERE!!!
HIP HIP HURRAH!
FERAL CAT POWER!!!

OKAY, WE ARE FURRIOUS

Mommy saw this on psychokitty's blog: http://psychokitty.blogspot.com/

"Hmmm...This is bugging me...I got a link request and because I like adding new kitty blogs to my blogroll, I added it. But then I started looking at the page and realized MY picture is on it, as if I was one of the kitties blogging there. The picture been Photoshopped to remove my collar, but other tell tale signs show that it is definitely my picture. So then I started wondering if any of those other kitties pictured are actually a part of that blog or not. You might wanna go see for yourself,* to see if your picture is there on the sidebar. I emailed and asked about my picture, but I haven't really given them a chance to reply...but I can't think of a single good reason why they're using my image without my permission, especially without acknowledging that it's me. And why remove my collar??? It's really, really bugging me!"

Well, Mommy checked it out and they are using and abusing lots of kitties that are NOT THEIRS, EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE CLAIMING THEY ARE! They are making fun of some of our friends! http://betsylinhares.tumblr.com/

Mommy compiled a list of places to send complaints -- she already has send complaints:

WE WILL NOT TOLERATE THIS INEXCUSABLE BEHAVIOR!
Meow!! Bounty Remove and Kill order Lifted

The Randolph City Council has overturned the Mayor's Cat Bounty policy and voted to let the several TNR organizations impalement a TNR program in Randolph and TNR organizations are paying the cost! Please support these groups with any financial contribution you can. I will get a list of all the organization that helped this become reality. Thanks to every single person who helped in this effort. A huge apology to Fremont County Veterinary Clinic for being wrongly name by the City of Randolph as the clinic that was to have the stray cats killed. They should be commended for finding a smart solution to the problem by spay/neutering stray cats and delivering them to a no kill shelter (Fry's Country Bargains) in Creston Iowa. Thanks Fremont County Veterinary Clinic!!

David Earlywine

this post was shamelessly borrowed from David's Blog: http://www.randolph-iowa.com/

All the cats in this community owe a big THANK YOU to David. He got the "word out" and continued to keep everyone updated! David, the Cat Blogosphere is proud to call you one of our own!

Is this cat a pet? Lost? Abandoned? Feral? Can't tell?
Of course not. All of these adjectives describe one species: Felis catus. A “feral” cat is usually the offspring of a lost or abandoned cat. A feral cat is unsocialized to humans, and fears and avoids contact with them. Other commonly used terms for "feral cat" include alley cat, barn cat, and street cat. All are members of the domestic species Felis catus. Recent scientific research places the emergence of this domestic species at 8,000-10,000 years ago.

Wacky Wednesday

Can you tell where one Calico starts and the other begins?

Which is Summer and which is Sassy?

As always, many thanks to:

Maggy & Zoey & The Zoolatry Human, Ann

Hey, Ms. Robyn Stole Our Name!

The House of (Mostly) Black Cats' Mommy is threatening to change their name to The House of (Mostly) Completely Comatose Cats. For obvious reasons, see below, Mommy has been thinking about changing our name to that too!
(Just kidding Sanjee, Boni, Mini, Gree & Pepi)
