SPELUNKING (The act of exploring a cave)

Mommy, Tatum & The Big Guy went spelunking for Tatum's birthday. These are pictures from Luray Caverns in Virginia.
If you look closely, you might see some figures in the stones:
#1. Do you see a kitty kissing a woofie in this one?
#2. Do you see the Holy Family?
#3. These are stalactites:
#4. These are stalagmites:
They occur in limestone caves. The stalactite is above, and hangs downward like an icicle; the stalagmite is below and sticks up. They grow in pairs, the slightly acidic water dissolves some of the limestone, carrying it downward. When the water evaporates, the limestone appears to have flowed downward. Some of the water does not evaporate until it has fallen through the air, and landed on the floor, the remaining limestone building the stalagmite. Sometimes the stalactite is missing, as they sometimes break off and fall; you will often see their pieces on the floor. Often, the stalactite and stalagmite will connect, and become a column like here:
#5
#6. Does this look like a mouth to anyone?
#7. Do you see a Tatum here?
#8. Beautiful Stalactites:
#9. Isn't this lovely?

We had a wonderful time! Hope you enjoyed the pictures!

They were quite nice. The Humans saw Marengo Cave in Indiana that had many of those formations and stuff and also Twin Caves in Spring Mill Park (which you toured by boat!)

Guess what, guess what? When we lived in Virginia a couple of years ago, my Mommie and Daddie went there, too! They said it was very beautiful. Did they see the special organ?

Those are lovely caves. Mum used to go in different caves several years ago and seen the beautiful formations and enjoyed it. The last time she went, the cave had a really low passage and she had to bend double to go through. She got really scared and panicky and has never been in any since.

That's cool. My mom said she went into a cave when she was a child and loved it, but unfortunately, her clausterphobia is bad now.

Oh, Jan went to Luray Caverns. That was 200 or so years ago, when she was a kid. She enjoyed the trip.
