Spats were originally worn as coverings over shoes and boots to protect the footwear from the mud and muck common to streets in the 1600's.
As you can see, Spats' spats are permanently attached!
Just look at this beautiful paw:
The Big Guy named her Spats because of her four white paws that look like spats!
